Maastricht Church turned into a Bookstore
Maaestricht has recently opened a new marvelous bookstore, a host to over 25,000 precious books. But what is most unique is that the place of their storage is a church that was built over 700 years ago! The Selexyz Dominicanen Bookstore is a unique conversation between science and religion, where the platform to communication is given by the a group of Amsterdam based design studio Merkx+Girod Architecten.
The bookstore features 1200 square meters of available space, with only two thirds being the available on the ground. To take the advantage of all of the space available, the designers from Keijsers Interior Projects have developed a unique shelving units that allowed using up more space. The black stylish shelves turn the former church into an amazing contemporary hot spot.
From late 2000’s the Selexyz Dominicanen Bookstore is available for visitors, having an interesting collection of over 45, 000 volumes of literature and a modern cafe for its clients to enjoy a good cup of coffee with a marvelous book.
