The Chest of Suitcases
Do you love to travel? Well, some people love traveling so much that they even incorporate this love into their art! Designer Maarten De Ceulaer has created the Chest of Suitcases, a cabinet, made entirely from suitcases, that are associated with traveling.
Leather Cabinets by Maarten De Ceulaer
This is just incredible! When a Belgium-born designer Maarten De Ceulaer was graduating from the school of design Design Academy Eindhoven, where he was studying Conceptual and Narrative design, he took the most precious thing that he loved to make the final project. Taking his passion for traveling as inspiration, Maarten has designed furniture pieces, a collection of cabinets, to be precise, all made from suitcases!
There are several cabinets in different sizes and heights, and the collection is made entirely from leather suitcases and briefcases. For this project, Maarten de Ceulaer has been collaborating with renowned Belgian leather artisan Ralph Baggaley for leather suitcase supply. There are different cabinets in the collection, that differ various sets of drawers, which could be stacked in various ways.
Although the project was designed in 2009, where it was launched in Milan named as “The Leather Collection”, it was decided to re-launch the showcasing of the collection in the current year. Nulifar gallery has taken interest to present the latest piece of the de Ceulaer collection during the Salone Del Mobile, which will take place from April 9th to 14th, 2013. As described by Maarten de Ceulaer himself in description of the collection:
“The craftsmanship and detailing is simply sublime and calls for instant admiration. These pieces, though colourful and playful, evoke luxurious and sophisticated atmospheres, but at the same time they carry the dynamic vibe of modern nomads, that travel through cities and continents without restrictions or boundaries.”
