Werner Aisslinger introduced his two latest works at the Milan iSaloni 2014 – a huge leather chair Colloseum and furniture sculpture Atomium, which has combined the functions of a small coffee table and a lamp. Both interior objects are a part of Europe Collection, over which the German designer worked together with the Italian Moroso.

The concept of the collection is to look at the rich cultural heritage of Europe through the prism of product design. Werner Aisslinger came up with a great idea – to perpetuate the history of Europe in the interior objects, interpreting its iconic monuments, to create a kind of furniture souvenirs. By the first two of its objects we can say that the collection promises to be very interesting.

Colloseum is a large circular leather armchair-bench in the form of the Roman Colosseum. Werner Aisslinger made it specifically for his long-time partners, the Italian furniture company Moroso. It is one of the most important architectural monuments of Italy and the most recognizable symbol of the country and Rome.

The Atomium installation in Brussels is the main attraction of the Belgian capital. Werner Aisslinger transformed it into a multifunctional piece of furniture made of copper and wood for living room or public space. The designer has built a small lamp and a coffee table in the crystal lattice of iron, the symbol of the atomic age and the peaceful use of nuclear energy. In addition to this he placed several shelves into the bodies of the atoms.

Werner Aisslinger’s furniture items wer brought to Milan by Berlin Design Selection – governmental organization, last year representing German design on the international stage.

Werner Aisslinger is known for his visionary projects, such as a mobile home Loftcube or a freestanding kitchen. He also works over the avant-garde solutions for everyday furniture.

Werner Aisslinger believes that the periods, when principles of “form follows function” and “form follows emotion” has consistently dominated in design, is ending. Now it is turn of the narrative era in design.

Werner Aisslinger was named the designer of 2014, according to the famous German magazine A & W (Architektur & Wohnen).
