MEMENTO: The souvenirization of a design icon
Memento is a unique conceptualization of the state of modern design by Hiob Haaro. Let’s explore this amazing project more closely!
Modern Design in a Form of a Souvenire
Hiob Haaro, a London based designer with German roots have made an interesting conceptualization of the modern state of design in a form of a common souvenier: the glass snow ball. Hiob Haaro is a young designer, but he had already took part in several exhitions, such as the Samsung Young Design Award and the Bombay Sapphire Glass Competition, Clerkenwell Design Week 2011 and Salone del Mobile 2012 in Milan at Fuorisalone.
Memento project is “souvenirization” of a design icon, which become known as “landmarks in our cultural background, and strike a chord in the viewers, thanks to their peculiar shapes”. This is not simply a souvenier, it is something to make you think! As stated by Hiob Haaro:
“The main aim of this project is to fuse one of the most famous design icons with the archetype of souvenirs. Moreover a fundamental question arises: are the scaled versions of design icons already souvenirs, as it the case for monuments?”
